It is summertime, which means a well-deserved vacation for you and your family. However, with any trip comes a significant amount of planning ahead, and with young children you have to think of absolutely everything. Before you book a flight to your faraway getaway, here are a few suggestions to make your (and your fellow passengers') plane travel go as smoothly as possible.
- Booking the right time: If you are not constrained significantly by scheduling, try to book a flight that closely coincides with your children's naptime or sleep schedule. To ensure that they sleep aboard the plane, walk around and keep them busy before boarding time.
- Plan activities: Considering your children might still have some built-up energy once they are on the plane, make sure to pack plenty of engaging activities in your carry-on bag. Movies and television shows won't be enough to keep them from getting restless in many cases, so bring coloring books or other toys that keep their hands active.
- Air pressure preparation: The change in air pressure is uncomfortable for everyone, and it must be even more troublesome to young children who do not understand what they are experiencing. For children over the age of 3, have them chew a piece of gum or munch on chewy candy, but watch them carefully to prevent choking risks. For children under the age of 3, have them suck on a bottle of juice or milk to relieve some of the pressure.
