The Basics of Effective Human Services Interviewing

The goal of human services work is to support a client's development: for instance, by building job, parenting, or life skills, or helping a client reach and maintain sobriety. Interviewing is the primary skill needed to accomplish this goal. This course enhances the skills of professionals who are new to the human services field, have not had basic interviewing instruction, or need a brush-up.
Techniques for Interviewing Challenging Clients

In this course you will learn modifications that will make your interviews more effective as you work with clients in increasingly complex situations. These ideas are designed to help you expand your repertoire of interviewing techniques, so that you can recognize and address barriers you may face in your work.

This course is focused on helping you form meaningful connections and improve communication with sSpecific types of clients, so that you can work with them to identify strengths, goals and next steps. Through course content and video demonstrations, you will learn specific techniques for:
1. Engaging fathers by honoring strengths
2. Redirecting anxious and angry clients
3. Building rapport with teens
4. Getting to the bottom of mixed messages
