Cognitive development in preschoolers is a subject that has received a lot of attention in recent years, as the field of early education has been elevated as both a profession and a course of study. Early childhood education practices worldwide are based primarily on two major theories of cognitive development. This course will briefly outline pertinent points of the two theories and provide suggestions for activities to promote cognitive development based on them – as well as some activities to avoid when promoting cognitive development in preschoolers.Not all courses are approved for early care and education in every state. Course Learning Objectives:
After participating in this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the two main theories of cognitive development underlying much of early care and education practice today and recognize their common beliefs.
- List at least two activities in each of six curriculum areas to promote cognitive development in preschoolers.
- Identify activities that are not appropriate for promoting cognitive development in preschoolers.
