Description
Domestic violence shelters employ staff from different disciplines, educational backgrounds and cultures to provide help and support to an equally diverse population of survivors. There is continual tension arising from people thrust together in shared spaces with new rules to live by, short timeframes for goal achievement, diminishing resources, readiness to own problems and solutions, and rights to self determination. Shelter staff must identify and acknowledge the stressors this environment generates and the resulting burnout that may occur. This course is intended to raise your awareness of the “cost of caring” for others specific to burnout, and offer solutions for prevention and remediation.
