Media Release
September 19, 2018 – ProSolutions Training recently released a new course package focused on child care center directors, program directors, family child care providers and administrators in early childhood education (ECE). Director Training: The Basics covers general information about what every director should know and is a great refresher for seasoned directors or a smart way to learn the basics for new directors. Course levels are basic to intermediate.
Directors are interested in this course because it explains the basics of managing a child care business and the importance of health and safety best practices. This package can also be useful for obtaining a certification, fulfilling training requirements, or earning professional development. The coursework is available online, so directors and administrators can access classes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
"As a former program administrator, I find this course is an excellent way for directors to learn standard business practices for early childhood education and basics on child care center or family child care operations,” said Denise Payton, Senior Associate of Instructional Design at ProSolutions Training. "Training includes details around location selection, budgets and financial management, and familiarization with the day-to-day business of running a child care center.”
The course package also includes informative policies and basic forms, as well as tips on staff selection and how to handle confidentiality in the child care center environment. The training also presents strategies and important considerations for dealing with conflict. Directors will learn the benefits of assessing an early childhood program and be able to describe and identify social-emotional, cognitive, and physical developmental milestones for children ages zero to five.
Parents and families look for safety and cleanliness when selecting a child care center. This course teaches several important basic health and safety standards for keeping the center environment and the children as safe and healthy as possible. Directors and administrators learn techniques to stop the spread of common contagious diseases and illnesses and best practices for administering medication to children safely. Examples of commonly required forms related to medications in the child care environment are included.
The transportation courses included in the package share best practices to ensure child, driver and vehicle safety. According to a course participant’s evaluation, "Transportation Safety helped me to understand the importance of transporting children from the facility to home or from school to facility. I think the state regulations and procedures are important to follow, and, most importantly, no child should be left in a car, not even for a minute.”
"This is an important course for directors and administrators to learn and review the basics of child care center operations,” said ProSolutions Training President Carla Rogg. "Our goal is to provide early childhood educators with the tools and information they need to succeed. This course package is one of many valuable online courses PST has available for training and professional development.”
The 12-hour package is available for only $49 and provides 1.20 CEU credits. Development of a 20-hour package is in progress and will be available for $79. All PST courses have been enhanced to include best practice application examples and interactive features that are aligned with common assessment tools frequently used in early childhood education programs. This course may also provide credit toward state annual training requirements. Directors and administrators can check state approval information on the PST website.
