This one-hour course focuses on reducing a baby's risk of SIDS at home and in child care settings.

Administration of Medication, Consistent with Standards for Parent Consent

Medication Administration in the Child Care Setting  (1 hour)

The Council of Educational Facilities Planners International in collaboration with numerous security and educational professionals has identified best practices associated with the four critical elements for establishing a safe and secure school environment:
  • Infrastructure

  • Staffing
  • Procedures
You play a critical role in developing and implementing building and physical premises safety and security best practices for your educational facility and campus.

Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect

Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse in New Hampshire (1 hour)
As adults, it is our responsibility to ensure the healthy growth and development of all children. This includes intervening when we suspect a child's well-being is or may be at risk. In this course, you will understand the signs and symptoms of child maltreatment; North Carolina mandatory reporting laws; the legal definitions of abuse, neglect, and dependency; how and where to make a referral of suspected child maltreatment; barriers to reporting and some strategies for overcoming them; and where to find additional resources.

Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Response Planning

Emergency Preparedness: Better Safe Than Sorry!  (1 hour)
Being prepared for emergencies can make a big difference as to whether or not the children in your care and the staff in your program remain safe. In this course, you will learn about the necessary steps a program should take to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency, as well as effective strategies to communicate your emergency plan to children, parents and staff.

Appropriate Precautions in Transporting Children

Transportation Safety Basics in New Hampshire (1 hour)
Each year, thousands of children are injured in transportation related accidents, many with fatal outcomes. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the leading cause of death for children 0 to 19 is due to injuries resulting from transportation accidents. Many of these accidents occur while children are being transported in child care settings.

In this course, we will review transportation guidelines for keeping children safe in child care settings. We will also review the elements of a comprehensive transportation plan and rules for field trip safety.

Child Development for Children Ages Birth to Thirteen (13) Years

Child Development: Milestones from Birth to Age 12  (1 hour)
Using input from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics, this course will introduce you to age-specific developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are descriptions of typical behaviors and functional skills that can be related to certain periods of a child's development. These milestones can help you shape expectations and guide planning for the children you work with on a daily basis.
