This course package will cover cognitive development - both the physical changes in the brain as well as the changes in the way children think and learn from birth to age five. By understanding cognitive development and identifying typical expected milestones, you will be able to influence intellectual development of the children in your care.

- Define cognitive development and describe the influence of brain development on the infant's cognitive system
- List two cognitive milestones that typically appear in infants at different time periods: birth - 1 month, 1 - 4 months, 4 - 8 months, 8 - 12 months and 12 - 18 months
- Discuss some other important factors that can influence infant cognitive development
Brain Power! Cognitive Development in Toddlers - 1 Hour
- Define cognitive development and describe the influence of brain development on the toddler's cognitive system
- Identify toddler cognitive skills that correspond with recognized stages of development and demonstrate emerging language development
- Discuss other important factors that can influence toddler cognitive development
Brain Power! Cognitive Development in Preschoolers - 1 Hour
- Define cognitive development and describe the influence of brain development on the cognitive system
- Identify two major advancements in cognitive development theory
- List three ways preschoolers process information in traditional subject areas
